NaHCO3 + H+ ----------CO2 + H2O + Sodium salt of acid (From any acid)
Reason: Carbon dioxide produced during the reaction can cause bread or cake to rise making them soft and spongy.​

Here heat is used as catalyst . Baking soda is a substance which makes the food fluffy by releasing carbon dioxide . This makes the food to rise up and become fluffy like in cake  which is not done by baking powder .
