Assertion: When the object moves with a velocity of 2 m/s, its image in the plane mirror moves with a the velocity of 4 m/s. Reason: The image formed by a plane mirror is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it.

Both assertion and reason are true

plane mirror has a property to form images whose distance from the mirror is the same as that of the object from the mirror

so we can say that

distance of object= u

distance of image= -u ( since the image formed will be on the opposite side )

So, the distance between the image and the object will be 2u

Let the object travels with speed 2m/s towards the mirror

so in unit time distance travelled will be 2m

the new separation will be 2( u-2 )

We can say that the distance reduced in unit time between the object and the mirror is 2×2

hence the speed of the image will be 2×2= 4m/s
