The assertion is true and the reason is true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

metal + Acid = salt + hydrogen gas

here metal zinc will react with hydrochloric acid and will liberate hydrogen gas and Zinc chloride that is salt.

That is

Zn + HCl = ZnCl2 + H2

On balancing the above equation we will get

Zn+ 2HCl = ZnCl2 + H2

And Hydrogen chloride molecules indeed contain hydrochloric acid and hydrogen atoms.
