   of assertion.

Zirconium is purified by Van Arkel method. In this method impure metal is converted into a volatile compound while impurities are unaffected. The volatile compound is decomposed electrically to get pure metal.

Similarly, zirconium is treated with iodine to form ZrI₄  which on heating decomposes to give pure Zr.
