• The free media plays a key role in reporting about human rights violations in society.Human rights are rights held to be justifiably belonging to any person.These rights are universal and are enshrined in the constitutions of democratic states.

• A free media should promote a free exchange of ideas.Free exchange of ideas is an absolute necessity inorder to determine a true state of affairs and help citizens make an accurate evaluation of them .If there is free and unregulated trade in the exchange of ideas,truth becomes apparent.

• Media reporting should concern itself with free speech that promotes individual autonomy.

• Simply stated,the media plays a key role in reporting government ,groups and other institutions excesses that violate human rights.When these are brought to the fore, action is taken.
