Tropical storms can have a devastating effect on the on people and the environment as they could destroy industries, for example the damage to the shipping containers in figure 5. There could be potential landslides and high wind speeds which could destroy buildings and businesses, also leading to people loosing their jobs. Typhoon Haiyan caused $53 millions to the economy and crops were destroyed, leading to famine and potentially more deaths. 30,000 fishing boats were also destroyed, which meant that fishermen lost out on income, affecting their livelihood greatly as this can lead to more poverty in families. Long term environmental impacts such as mangroves being destroyed led to many habitats being destroyed, decreasing biodiversity. This also had a great effect on Tourism to the country, affecting the economy once again. Finally, Typhoon Haiyan caused pollution which lead to the spread of diseases such as cholera, which led to more deaths
