  • India is a wide country which has a longitudinal extent of 30 degrees.
  • There is a difference of 2 hrs between the eastern most and western most tip of India.
  • So, in order to move from one place to another in longitudinal span, one has to increase the time by 4 mins in order to keep up with the local time. ( the difference between each longitude is 4 mins)
  • So, India needs to have a Standard time which can be followed all over India in a uniform manner.
  • India opted the Standard Meridian pf India which passes through Mirzapur, U.P at 82 degree 30'E.
