Mahatma Gandhi led our country to independence from the British rule, through non-violent means. He mobilised farmers, urban labourers and the middle-class to protest against discrimination by the British and excessive tax imposed by them, on the public.
His non-violent method of civil disobedience was taken up by the masses, which ultimately led to the British, leaving India in 1947. It included ‘satyagraha’, protest marches, strikes and other non-violent means of frustrating the British.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi aka Mahatma Gandhi (1869 – 1948) is considered the Father of our Nation and has inspired people the world over, by his non-violent methods of protests.
After returning from south africa, gandhiji played a leading role in the indian national movement from 1916 to death.
