Some extroverts out there might experience a similar thing, the pure exhaustion although we don’t really do intense physical activities. You kind of miss waking up with excitement to hear good news, where let’s be blunt about it, almost none since months ago. Turns out there are some explanations behind this perpetual notion of bitterness. Research shows our brain works twice, if not thrice times than it normally does when we are coping with some uncomfortable situations. “We are looking over a cliff that we cannot see the bottom of”. We are going on the fight or flight syndrome, some time, which result “Mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and worry are all a function of prolonged social isolation.” Whether I like it or not, these sudden change worldwide also affects me in certain ways. I found it so hard to plan my future (it is pretty unusual for me, as some people would label me as an ambitious and stubborn girl) ahead like planning to take my master degree, thinking about moving out, taking some courses I really wanted to try since years ago, and so on. I have learned to accept that in order to stay sane, I should let loose something and live in the moment more.

I think to some extent, it also affects my relationships with other people. As much as I want to stay connect with my friends and family, I have found it even sadder that all I have now is screen interaction that really distorted intimacy. I have missed being held by my friends, hugged people I care, even hand-shaking with strangers. I do not think I can be as vibrant, outgoing, or jolly as I used to. I wonder what the world might be like when it is all over or getting better…However, one thing I assume has not been really shifting (except maybe we cannot really do meet-ups nowadays) is interaction through dating apps. Though some people I know also said they have found friends through the apps for killing time and of course reduce the loneliness (yes, bumble has BFF mode on it so it is pretty obvious that it is meant for friendship), I still do not think it is the best platform to have real connections. Reminding myself again that I stated previously in my other writing, dating apps are really not my cups of tea because of its lack of real human-interactivity, somehow, before mid of this year, I still opened the apps just to see what was in there. It was interesting to see some slight changes in how people describe themselves. For example, I saw some guys posted their photos with masks on, many put something like “COVID Sucks” or “Be my quarantine date” on the bio, or “do not ask about pandemic” kind of thing as if he had enough already. I did not really swipe much during that period of time, I was just not that “into it”anymore. Does not mean I did not have some intriguing stories about some of my matches, although this time, meet up was really a huge challenge. I tried to create few characters based on people I am interacting with. Maybe some of you also have encountared the same experiences on your online dating journey, hope this article amuses you well!
