1) The leaves of a plant combine with a gas ’A’ taken from air and a liquid ‘B’ taken from the soil in the presence of sunlight to make a simple food ‘C’ by the process called ‘D’.
A. Name the process ‘D’. Which pigment present in leaves helps in carrying out the process ‘D’?
B . Which test is used to detect the presence of ‘C’ in food and what colour is obtained?
2) Paheli is wondering and wants to know why our body cannot make food from carbon dioxide, water and minerals like plants do? Answer her question
3) Practical Based Question:
Leaves of a green plant were covered with black strips and placed in dark room for 24 hours. Will the leaves be positive for starch? Give reason to support your answer.

Answer:

1)

A. Process is photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is the pigment helping in photosynthesis.

B.Starch test is done. Colour obtained is blue-black.

2)

We do not have chlorophyll and our structure is different from that of plants. Therefore, we cannot make our own food from carbon dioxide,water and minerals.

3)

Leaves will not be positive for starch as the plant wasn't able to obtain sunlight which is necessary for photosynthesis. Since photosynthesis did not take place, glucose was not formed.
