1)No. As oil being lighter than water will come up and spill all around resulting in a major accident.
2)Yes.I think what Sourav's mother had done was right because switching off the gas reduces the heat which helps in reducing the fire resulting in a major accident.And covering the pan will help in distinguishing the fire as the oxygen cannot reach the fire help it in burning.
3)When cooking with oil, never leave the stove unattended. To stop a grease fire, turn off the burner and place a lid on the pan to suffocate the flames, or pour on lots of baking soda.
