multiply first equation by 3 you get

3 × 2^x + 3 × 3^y =17×3

3 × 2^x + 3^y+1= 51-----(1)

2^x+2 - 3^y+1 = 5

4 × 2^x - 3^y+1 = 5 ----(2)

Adding equation (1) and (2)

(4+3) × 2^x = 51 + 5

7 × 2^x = 56

2^x = 56/7

2^x = 8

2^x = 2^3 {8 can be written as 2^3}

when bases are same compare the powers

therefore, x = 3

put value of X = 3 in equation (2)

4 × 2^3 - 3^y+1 = 5

4 × 8 - 3 × 3^y = 5

32 - 3 × 3^y = 5

-3 × 3^y = 5 - 32

-3 × 3^y = -27

as both sides have negative sign it will become positive

3 × 3^y = 27

3^y = 27/3

3^y = 9

3^y = 3^2

as bases are same so compare the powers

therefore y = 2
