Using the relation,

E

cell

= nF2.303 RT logK

c = n0.0591 logK c

∴0.295 V= 20.0591

or logK c = 0.0591

2×0.295 =10

or K c

=1×10 =10

QUESTION -

The standard emf of a cell having reaction involving two electron charge isfound to be 0.295 V. Calculate the equilibrium constant of the reaction.

ANSWER -

At equilibrium, Ecell = 0

And we have the formula as :

Ecell = E0cell - 0.0592 ( log K ) / n

So, E0cell = 0.0592 ( log K ) / n

Simply use the given values, E0cell = 0.295 V and n = 2 and find K (equilibrium constant).
