At 7 : 00 am. i started travelling at the speed of 36 kmph. after i had travelled some distance, my car went out of order and i had to stop. after resting for 35 minutes, i returned home on foot at a speed of 14 kmph and reaches home at 1 pm. find the distance from my house at which my car broke down

Let the distance travelled by a car and foot be x.

Speed =distance/time

Therefore, time = distance /speed

Distance travelled by car = x/36

Distance travelled by her = x/14

Resting time = 35min

1hour =60min

Therefore,6hours = 360min

According to the given condition,

x/36 + x/14 + 35 = 360min

x/36 + x/14 = 360 - 35

By cross multiplying

14x + 36x / 504 = 325

50x = 325 × 504

50x = 163800

x = 163800/50

x = 3276

Therefore,

Distance between car broke

= 3276m= 3.276km
