Step-by-step explanation:

no of scouts who turned up = 84-21=63

let no of days it will last now be x

No of scouts= 84, 63

No of days= 12, x

This is a case of inverse variation

therefore,

84 \times 12 = 63 \times x \\ \frac{84 \times 12}{63} = x \\ x = 16

therfore the food will last for 16 days now
