ANSWER:

Given

  • A gas occupies volume of 800cm³ at pressure of 760mm of Hg = 1atm pressure

TO FIND:

Under what pressure the gas will occupy the volume 480cm³

Given,

volume (v) = 800cm³

Pressure ( p ) = 760 mm of Hg = 1 atm

Temperature ( t ) = constant

Using

P1V1 = P2V2

Given

P1 = 760mm of Hg

P2 = ?

V1 = 800cm³

V2 = 480cm³

Substituting we get

760(P2) = 800×480

P2 = 384000/760

P2 = 505.2 mm of Hg

Hence, the gas occupies volume of 480cm³ at pressure of 505.2 mm of Hg
