Given - V1 = 400 cm³

P1 = 760 mm of Hg

New pressure = 25% of P1

Find - New volume or V2

Solution - We will use the relation between pressure and volume, which is - P1V1 = P2V2. In this relation, P1 is original pressure, P2 is final pressure. In addition, V1 is original volume and V2 is final volume.

Finding P2 firstly, which is 25% increased-

P2 = 25/100*P1 + P1

P2 =P1/4 + P1

P2 = 5P1/4

Now, keeping the values in mentioned formula =

760*400 = (5*760/4)*V2

Further, solving to find the value of V2

V2 = 760*400*4/(5*760)

V2 = 80*4

V2 = 320 cm³

Hence, the new volume is 320 cm³.
