At a farm the ratio of goats to cows was 9 : 2. If there were 72 goats at the farm, how many cows were there?

c = number of cows

c/h = 9/2 ⇒

h = (2/9)c

If c = 72, then

h = (2/9)(72) = 16

Test the answer: c/h = 72/16 = 4.5 = 9/2
