At a fruit shop, the ratio of the number of apples to the number of orange is 1:4. and
the ratio of the numbers of oranges to the number of mangoes is 5:2. What is the ratio
of the number of apples to the number of mangoes?
Ans:-
If;
A=Apple
B=Orange
C=Mango
=> A:B=1:4
B:C=5:2
A:C=?
(Given)
? =
A:B=1:4
5:2=B:C
LCM of 5 and 4 is 20
A:B. B:C
×2×2 ×4 ×4.
5:20. 20:8
A:B:C= 5:20:8
therefore,
A:C= 5:8
Thank you

We recall the concept of a ratio.

A ratio gives the relative sizes of two or more values.

Given:

Let A be no. of apples

Let B be no. of oranges

Let C be no. of mangoes

A:B=1:4

B:C=5:2

We have,

\frac{A}{B}=\frac{1}{4}.....................................(1)

\frac{B}{C}=\frac{5}{2}....................................(2)

Multiplying equations (1),(2)

\frac{A}{B}*\frac{B}{C}=\frac{1}{4}*\frac{5}{2}

\frac{A}{C}=\frac{5}{8}

Hence ratio of number of apples to number of mangoes is 5:8

Answer:

The ratio of the number of apples to the number of mangoes = 5:8

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

No. of apples: No. of oranges =  1:4

No. of oranges: No. of mangoes = 5:2

Required to find,

No. of apples: No. of mangoes

Let 'A' be the number of apples, 'B' be the number of Oranges and 'C' be the number of mangoes.

Then given,

A: B = 1:4

B : C = 5:2

Representing the above ratios in fractions we get,

\frac{A}{B}  = \frac{1}{4}  ------------------(1)

\frac{B}{C} = \frac{5}{2} -------------------(2)

Multiplying equations (1) and (2) we get,

\frac{A}{B} X \frac{B}{C} =   \frac{1}{4} X \frac{5}{2}

\frac{A}{C} = \frac{5}{8}

A : C = 5 :8

No. of apples:  No. of mangoes = 5:8

Hence,

The ratio of the number of apples to the number of mangoes = 5:8
