Step-by-step explanation:

Let, the shadow of a pole is x

4.5/5 = x/1

x= 0.9

So, shadow of a pole is 0.9m

Given :- At a particular time on a day , a flagstaff 5 m high casts a. shadow of length 4.5 m . What is the length of the shadow of a pole of height 1 m at the same time. ?

Solution :-

in right ∆ABC, we have,

→ ∠ACB = θ

→ AB = flagstaff = 5m

→ BC = shadow = 4.5m .

so,

→ tan θ = AB / BC

→ tan θ = 5 / 4.5

→ tan θ = 50/45

→ tan θ = 10/9

now, in right ∆DEF, we have,

→ ∠DFE = θ (since time is same.)

→ DE = Pole = 1m

→ EF = shadow = ? .

so,

→ tan θ = DE / EF

putting value of tan θ,

→ (10/9) = 1 / EF

→ 10EF = 9

→ EF = (9/10)

→ EF = 0.9 m . (Ans.)

Hence, Length of shadow of pole at the same time is 0.9 m.
