Solution :

let no. of childrens = c

and no. of adults = a

given that

3/8( a + c) = c

also,

a = c + 40

so ,

3/8 ( c + 40 + c) = c

3/8 (2c + 40) = c

3/4 c + 15 = c

c - 3/4 c = 15

1/4 c = 15

c = 60

a = 60 + 40 = 100

a = 100

total members at party = 160

so there were 60 childrens , 40 adults

in total there were 160 members

Hope that helped

Answer:

Given 3/8 * N are children

So 5/8 * N are adults

Also it is given 5/8 * N - 3/8 * N = 40

==> 2/8 * N = 40

OR N = 160

Hence 160 in total attended the party
