given 3/8 were children and rest were adults
rest= is
1 -  \frac{3}{8}  =  \frac{8}{8}  -  \frac{3}{8}  =  \frac{5}{8}
so now given
 \frac{5}{8}  = 40
1 = 40 \div  \frac{5}{8}  = 40 \times   \frac{8}{5}  = 8 \times 8 = 64
so there were 64 ppl at the party
children =64-40=24
hope it helps mark it brainliest plz plz plz
