Let total number of children present in the school be x,
number gifts given by x students = x - 1
[ where each student gifts to the rest. If we do it practically, we will get the number of gifts 1 lesser than the number of students. ]
So, number of gifts = total number of students × gift given to rest
= > 132 = x( x - 1 )
= > 132 = x² - x
= > x² - x - 132 = 0
= > x² - 12x + 11x - 132 = 0
= > ( x - 12 )( x + 11 ) = 0
= > x = 12 or - 11
Number of students can't be negative, so x = 12
Therefore, total number of students = 12
number gifts given by x students = x - 1

Therefore, total number of students = 12
