Given : At an election, the candidate who got 56% of the votes cast won by 144 votes.

80% people cast their vote

there were no invalid votes

To Find : The total number of voters on the voting list

Solution:

Let say Voter in Voter list  = 1000V

80% people cast their vote = (80/100)1000V = 800V

Candidate got 56% votes = (56/100)800V =  448V

Another candidate got = 800V - 448V

= 352V

Difference  = 448V - 352V

= 96V

96V = 144

=>2V =  3

=> V = 3/2

=> 1000V = 1000 * 3/2

=> 1000V = 1500

1500 Voters were on voter list
