The Economic cause/Military cause

1. Long years of war had drained the financial resources of France.

2. The cost of maintaining and extravagant court of Versailles.

3. France helped the thirteen colonies to gain their independence from Britain.

4. The war added more than a billion livers to debt.

5. The cost of maintaining an army court running the government officers, universities the state was forced to increase the taxes.

Immediate cause

1. The price of bread which was the staple diet of the majority rose rapidly.

2. Most workers employed a labours in workshops, those owner fixed their wages.

3. On 5 May 1789, Louis XVI called together an assembly of estate generals to pass proposals for new taxes. The third estate protested against the proposal because they only had to pay taxes. The members of third estate demand individual rights but they being rejected.

Political cause

1. In France, the first and second estate all the members become the representatives and the third estate comprising of the common people and didn't get a chance to become the representatives & there was unequal representatives.

2. Only men, above 25 years & those who paid taxes were allowed to vote.

3. The rest of the citizens who did not vote were know as Passive citizens.
