- Carbon forms covalent bonds with other elements
- This is bcoz the valency of carbon is 4
- Therfore carbon shares electrons
- Carbon can form bonds with 4 monovalent compounds,one divalent and 1 monovalent,etc.
- That is why carbon forms a large no. of compounds.
b)
- Soaps react with calcium and magnesium salts in water to form scum which does not clean properly
- However detergents do not react with these salts.
- This is the major difference between soaps and detergents.
