At night the land surface is cooler than the sea surface .Does this effect the wind direction?

Yes. This difference in temperatures causes flow of air that is wind. Wind flows from higher temperature to lower temperature. Hence the flow of wind would be from sea to land during nights. Intact, this wind movement is called sea breeze.
