These metals lie in the mid of the reactivity series and react easily with air ,water or moisture to form their oxide. This oxide layer prevents the metal from further reaction and is not lusturous. This layer can be removed using a sand paper or a regmar sheet.

Iron reacts with air and water to form ferrous oxide, i.e.,Fe2O3.xH2O
