At present Mahesh’s age (in years) is 2 more than the square of his son Varun’s age. When Varun grows to his father’s present age, Mahesh’s age would be one year less than 10 times the present age of Varun. Find their present age.

This question is PYQ of NTSE. I don't know from which year it is.

Answer:

hey here is your solution

pls mark it as brainliest

Step-by-step explanation:

so let the present age of Mahesh (father of varun) be x years and that of varun be y years

according to the first condition

x=y.square+2 (1)

according to the second condition

it says that

when varun grows to his father's present age after few years

we would understand through one e.g.

so assume that varun age now=2 years

his father's age=27 years

so their difference is presently 22 years

so from second condition the needy person want to say that when varun would be of 27 years ie would attain his father's age 22 years ago,

the father would be aged as difference between varun age and father age 22 years ago+father's present age so as to satisfy the given condition

so according to second condition

difference between Mahesh age and varun age certain years ago+Mahesh present age=10×varun present age-1

ie (x-y)+x=10y-1

ie x+x-y=10y-1

ie 2x=11y-1 (2)

so thus then

2(y.square+2)=11y-1 from (1) and (2)

ie 2y.square+4=11y-1

so 2y.square-11y+5=0

so 2y.square-10y-y+5=0

ie 2y(y-5)-1(y-5)=0

ie (2y-1)(y-5)=0

so 2y=1 or y=5

ie y=1/2=0.5 or y=5

so as ages of any person are never in decimal,

y=0.5 is absurd

hence y=5

substitute value of y in any of two equations

we get

x=27

hence present age of Mahesh is 27 years and that of his son varun is 5 years

hope my explanation was satisfactory and as this question is not available on any of the website

hope my answer would be ryt bcs I am not sure is it ryt or wrong
