At sea level, the atmospheric pressure is 76 cm of Hg. If air pressure falls by 10 mm of Hg per 120 m of ascent, what is the height of the hill where the barometer reads 70 cm Hg. State the assumption made by you.

Difference between the atmospheric pressure at sea level and mountain

= 76 – 70 = 6 cm of Hg

Also, 1 cm of Hg = 12 cm

Therefore, the height of the hill = 6 x 12 = 72cm.

Therefore, when the barometer reads at 70cm of Hg, height = 72 cm.
