Given : nitrogen monoxide (NO) is at STP.

To find : The density of nitrogen monoxide at STP.

solution : from gas equation, PV = nRT

⇒V = nRT/P

let m is the mass of nitrogen monoxide.

so, density , d = m/V

= m/nRT/P

= mP/nRT

= mP/(mRT/M)

= PM/RT

therefore density, d = PM/RT

at STP, P = 1 atm,

Molecular mass, M = 14 + 16 = 30 g/mol

R = 0.082 atm.L/mol/K

T = 0°C = 273 K

so, density of nitrogen monoxide, d = (1 atm × 30g/mol)/(0.082 atm.L/mol/K × 273 K)

= 1.34 g/L

Therefore density of nitrogen monoxide is 1.34 g/L at STP.
