He meant that the policy of apartheid in South Africa,by saying glorious Mandela meant that now they had achieved freedom.It was now the end of the racial discrimination.’An extraordinary human disaster ‘is said by him because for attaining freedom for country he has not only faced problems, as well as many other leaders have sacrificed their lives to attend freedom

The end of apartheid regime and the beginning of a more tolerant society was the glorious human achievement.
