The density of the solvent is 2498 kg/m³.

Given: The depth of the storage tank = 12.5 m

The pressure at the bottom of the storage tank due to the solvent was 306 kPa.

To Find: The density of solvent.

Solution:

  • We know that the formula to calculate the density of a solvent is given by,

              P = hρg                                                                 ....(1)

where, P = pressure, h = height or depth, ρ = density, g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s².

Coming to the numerical, we are given that,

The depth (h) of the storage tank = 12.5 m

The pressure (P) at the bottom of the storage tank=306 kPa =306000 Pa

Putting respective values in (1), we get,

          P = hρg

      ⇒ 306000 = 12.5 × ρ × 9.8

      ⇒   ρ =  306000 / ( 12.5 × 9.8 )

                = 2498 kg/m³

Hence, the density of the solvent is 2498 kg/m³.
