At the end of a mission, a shuttle can return to Earth and land like an (D) aeroplane.
A parachute which is present in the space shuttle is opened from the back which helps it to stop the orbiter.
The parachute along with the speed brake which is present in the tail increase the drag on the orbiter. The orbiter stops about at a distance of three-quarters of the way down in the runwayin which it is landing.
After landing, the crew of the space shuttle follow the shut down procedure and then leaves the space shuttle.
