At the end of the Persian Gulf War, Iraq agreed to eliminate any long-range missiles it possessed and also recognize Kuwait’s right to exist independently.

Even though the Gulf war resulted in heavy damage to Iraq and Kuwait, United States decided to leave Saddam Hussein in power.

The decision of United states Bush administration to leave President Saddam Hussein to keep the power in Iraq after the end of Persian Gulf War is one of the most significant historical controversial actions ever. The reason behind that drastic decision that taken by Bush administration was reported by the former director of CIA, Robert M. Gates back in 1993.  

According to the report of CIA director, capturing Saddam was the main aim of American government after the war but they left him in the power because of many mistaken beliefs. Some of them are
