age of the son = ( x - 6 ) years

man's age = ( 4x - 6 ) years

according to the problem given,

( 4x - 6 ) = 10( x - 6 )

4x - 6 = 10x - 60

4x - 10x = -60 + 6

- 6x = - 54

x = ( -54 ) / ( - 6 )

x = 9

Therefore ,

at present ,

age of the son = x = 9 years

man's age = 4x = 4 × 9 = 36 years
