The Patriot poem tells us the rise and fall of a hero .

Summary :

• One year ago , The Patriot was welcomed with roses and myrtles ( a flower with beautiful scent) The people were shouting so loudly that the house roofs and walls seemed to crack and fall down . The churches spires flamming , we're decorated with different colour flags.People went mad and crazy , everyone were yelling his name.
• Every where a happy atmosphere was spread , people covered his house . By seeing their happiness , The Patriot says to the people to stop the noise and ask them to bring the sun from that sky . They replied then what else he needs?
• It was the Patriot who worked on that impossible thing that is to bring the sun from the sky and give to his people.which is impossible for the man (Robert Browning is referring to an impossible thing that can be done . )The Patriot was left undone and he is getting punished for his deeds and on this very day a year ago he was worshipped but now they are punishing him
• Now there are no one on his house roof tops. Only few disabled person are sitting near the window. Many went near the shamble gates for the best sight and for more best sight went to the scaffolds foot.
• He is being lead to the shambles , he is taken in the rain , the rope tied to him seems to cut his veins , his forehead is bleeding as people are throwing stones at him for his year's of misdeed.
• How the Patriot is welcomed and how he leaves , in the triumph he is worshipped .He believes God that he will be rewarded for his good deeds by God. He hopes that he is safe.
