The air is required for the sound to poropagate becoz the particals in the air helps sound to propogate. For ex in space we can talk to each other becoz there is no air in the space.

Answer:

Ans: i. A sound wave propagates in the form of

compression and rarefaction.

ii. When a compression is formed, compressed air

molecules transfer their energy to air molecules in

next region without leaving their positions.

iii. As a result, air molecules in next region get

compressed and transfer energy further in the same

manner.

iv. Meanwhile, a rarefaction gets formed and moves

forward in the similar way.

v. As a combined effect, air molecules propagate

sound wave without actual movement.

Hence, during propagation of sound wave in air

from one place to another, air itself is not required

to move.
