Heya user

Given:-

At the start of the month a shop had 20-inches and 40-inches television sets in the ratio 4:5. By the end of the month, 200 20-inches and 500 40-inches were sold and the ratio of 20-inches to 40-inches television sets became 1:1.

To Find :-

television sets of each type were there at the start of the month.

Solution :-

At the start of month,

Let x be the number of 20 -inches

and y be the number of 40-inches.

Therefore,

x/y = 4/5

By the end of the month,

200 & 500 were sold from the 20-inches & 40 inches television sets respectively.

That's why, ( x-200) & (x - 500) were unsold.

there ratio is ☞ 1:1.

Hence,

(x-200) /(y-500) =1/1

Using the cross product on both equations obtained above

5x =4y

➯ x = 4/5 y.......... eq(1)

&

x-200 = y-500

Putting the value of x, we get

4/5 y -200 = y -500

➯ y-4/5 y = 300

➯ y = 1500

Hence,

x = 4/5y

➯ x = 1200

Thanks
