At what age the kittens are safe from tom cats

Our cat had kittens.. we havent had kittens born here in almost 20 years. Our cats are all neutered. Blue was a new kitten last summer and I this year when I began to think seriously about having her spayed.. it was too late. She had 4 black kittens and a pretty blue .. just like her. One by one the kittens began to disappear so we moved mom and the last 3 to the kennel where we thought they would be safe. Nope.. tom cat came in past the dogs.. squeezed through the gates.. 

The tom comes here and fights with our neutered male... and wakes us up during the night argueing with our cats. I know he is trying to get at the last kitten.

we are down to the gray kitty.. mom and kitten are secured in a pen ... 
tonight I caged up the other two barn cats.. and set out a live trap. If I catch that tom..... well you dont wanto to know.

Does anyone know how old kittens are before a tom will not attempt to kill them?

This little kitten is 23 days old... and I sure intend to get the tom before he gets the kitten!!!
