We know that 'g' on the surface of the earth is 9.8 ms^-2.
and we get this by this formula,so called
g=GM/r^2
it means that 'g' is inversely proportional to square of the radius or distance between the bodies,
so,
g=GM/r^2

if we increase the distance by the radius of the earth

then the distance become R+R
so ,
g=GM/(R+R)^2
g=GM/(2R)^2
g=GM/4R^2

Therefore,we get that when we go far away one radius from the earth the g becomes g/4..
