solution :

object distance, u = ? (to be find)

image distance, v = 24 cm

focal length , f = 18 cm

we know that; 1/f = 1/v - 1/u

=> 1/18 = 1/24 - 1/u

=> 1/18 - 1/24 = -1/u

=> -1/u = 1/72

=> u = -72cm

Hence; object is placed at 72cm from lens.

hope u get it.☺
