The rate of interest at which the sum increase is 20%

Given:

Time = 2 years

Percentage increase = 40%

To find:

At what rate of interest will a sum increase by 40%

Solution:

Let the initial amount be = Rs.100

Thus, since the percentage increase is 40%, therefore -

After two years sum will be = 140

SI = 40

Calculating the rate, by using the formula of SI -

SI = PRT/100

Now,

R = SI × 100 / ( P × T)

R = 40 × 100 / 100 × 2

R = 4000/200

R = 20

Answer: The rate of interest at which the sum increase is 20%
