Answer:

Let a sum of money is Rs.x which triples itself in 5 yrs at r% p.a. at simple interest

Let in n years it becomes 5 times. Accordingly :-

P =Rs.x , t=5 years. , A=Rs.3x. , S.I.= Rs.(3x-x)= Rs.2x.

S.I. = (P×r×t)/100.

2x = ( x.r.5)/100

or , 2 = r/20. => r = 40%
