This is due to the fact that temperature decreases with increase in altitude.

This, in turn, affects the type of flora seen in these areas.

Depending on the flora, mountainous areas are divided into the following zones namely, foothills, mountains, subalpine, alpine and snow zones (Altitude increases from foothills to snow zones).
