Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the prime minister of India, was born on December 25, 1924 at Shinde Cantt in Madhya Pradesh..  His father’s name was Krishna Bihari Vajpayee. His grandfather Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee was an eminent Sanskrit scholar. He was educated at Victoria College, Gwalior and D.A.V. College, Kanpur. While he was just a student, he aligned himself to the Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (R.S.S.) and later become its “Pracharak”. After completing his post graduation he took up journalism and social service as his profession and gained fame. He had a fascination for writing poems.

He entered the parliament for first time in 1957. He was one of the four founder members of the Jana Sangh in 1951. Vajpayee is a skilled speaker. His manner of speaking is very infrequent.  During 1977-79, he was sent ot U. N. General Assembly as a representative of India where he addressed the assembly in Hindi for the first time.

He became the Prime Minister of India in 1996, 1998 and 1999. During his leadership, India tested her nuclear capability at Pokhran in 1998. He has received the title of Padma Bhushan . This was followed by another honor bestowed upon him by the U.P. Hindi Sansthan on 28th September, 1992. And then on 16th August, 1994 “Govinnd Vallabh Pant Award” was conferred upon him for his being the Best Parliamentarian.  He is a writer, a journalist and an instant composer, in verses.  He has written a book of poems called Kaidi Kaviraj Ki Kundalian.
