Given :-

A car is miving in a straight line from rest and travels at a distance of 20 m in 4 seconds with constant acceleration.

Required to Find :-

Acceleration - ?

Equations used :-

Second equation of Motion :

s = ut + ½ at²

[ Where, a is acceleration ]

Solution :-

 \displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: s =ut +  \frac{1}{2} \: at^{2}}}

Putting, the values of s, u and the in the formula,

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 20 = 0 \times 4 + \frac{1}{2}\times a \times (4)^{2}}}

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 20 = 0 + \frac{1}{2} \times a \times 16}}

  • Multiplying the terms ( a and 16 = 16a )

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 20 = \frac{1}{2} \times 16a}}

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 20 = \frac{16a}{2}}}

  • Taking 2 to L.H.S.

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 20 \times 2 = 16a}}

  • Multiplying 20 and 2 = 40

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \: 40 = 16a}}

\displaystyle{\bf{\implies \:\frac{\cancel{40}^{2.5}}{\cancel{16}^{1}} = a}}

  • Dividing 40 by 16

  • Acceleration is 2.5 m/s².
