Gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide do what the roof of agreenhouse does. During the day, the Sun shines through the atmosphere. Earth's surface warms up in the sunlight. At night, Earth's surface cools, releasing the heat back into the air.

Yeah it's right now a days atmosphere is really acting like a greenhouse due to increase in the concentration of greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ethane, methane and many other these gasses doesn't allow ultraviolet rays to pass through them this increase the Temperature of earth
