atmosphere has 78% of Nitrogen gas Steel plants cannot utilise it why
Answers
If 78% of the atmosphere is nitrogen, why can't we use it?
Actually, we DO use nitrogen!
Oxygen makes up approximately 21% of the atmosphere. If there was more Oxygen in the atmosphere, than simply rubbing your hands would set them on fire, and your cells won’t be able to stay alive. So we need a “filler” to fill the remaining 78% of the atmosphere that won’t really harm us.
Also, nitrogen is essential for life. It is used by our cells for amino acids, proteins, and even our DNA, and plants use it for photosynthesis. However, we can’t get the Nitrogen straight out of the atmosphere, so it has to undergo “fixation” before we can consume it in the food we eat. Part of the fixation process does include getting the nitrogen out of the atmosphere.
