Atmosphere

(c)800 km

Atmosphere is a thick blanket of air around earth. The Earth's atmosphere is divided into several layers  named as troposphere( 12-18\ km), stratosphere (11-50 \ km), mesosphere (50-90 \ km), thermosphere (80-800\ km), exosphere (800-2500\ km). These layers are divided on the basis of  temperature.

Ozone layer is mainly present in stratosphere. Each layer has its own benefit and suitability for different purposes.

  • Troposphere- lowest part of atmosphere, and contains clouds, rain etc.
  • Stratosphere- it contains ozone layer which absorbs harmful radiation.
  • Mesosphere-It burns most of the meteors, and asteroids.
  • Thermosphere- It is also known as ionosphere, reflects and absorbs radio waves.
  • Exosphere-Uppermost region and has no clear boundary.

Note: The ranges of the different layers may vary from source to source.
